Netherlands' most important memorial to world war II in Amsterdam
The National Monument on the Dam Square is the Netherlands’ most important memorial to World War II. Over 20 meters high it serves a reminder of the cruelties of WW II and those who have lost their lives. During National Remembrance Day (Nationale Dodenherdenking, 4th May) the royal family, local residents and veterans all come together at this monument to pay their respect.
