Stedelijk Museum

International museum dedicated to modern and contemporary art and design
As the most important museum of modern and contemporary art and design in the Netherlands, the Stedelijk Museum Amsterdam is a must-see experience. Situated on Museumplein, 'the Stedelijk' opened in 1895, just ten years after the nearby Rijksmuseum, and next to the (later) Van Gogh Museum. The original building hosts a selection of one of the world's finest art collections, dating from 1870 until the present day, presented in three themes: Art up to 1950, Art 1950-Present and Design, featuring internationally-known movements: Bauhaus, Amsterdam School, De Stijl, Cobra, Abstract-expressionism, Pop art, Minimal art, Conceptual art and Dutch Design.
